After rediscovering the fishkeeping hobby in my thirties, I got my wife-at-the-time on board once she learned about the existence of these: bettas. We started breeding them, and this boy here, Bamse, is the first male we raised to maturity. This is also the picture that inspired “The Sunday Walk” later on. I couldn’t help but see a park and some aristocratic lady walking this fish through it whenever I looked at it from the bed, without my glasses and not quite awake.
